When I was drawing this cartoon, I had ideas as to what the characters in the background were doing, but those ideas couldn't possibly fit in the strip. My original plan was to "move the microphones" so that instead of picking up Erik and Jennifer's conversation, they would pick the rest, but remembering the famous "Garfield without Garfield" comics, I wondered how it would be if I removed Erik from the comic completely? You can judge the results by yourself.
